Erin is no stranger to the spotlight here at St. Clare Hospital! Her enthusiasm, outgoing personality, and sense of humor are just some of the endearing traits her colleagues have grown to know and love. It is evident that she loves St. Clare Hospital and the community we serve. Erin has grown into an emerging leader by getting involved, helping to be a part of the solution, and embracing all thefast-pacedchanges. She has played a vital role in the Orthopedic Care Pathway and with the CPE project. She works tirelessly at such efforts, but never loses focus which is to find ways to better serve our patients.
One particular patient interaction stands out. This patient had been with us for months as we searched for a home and set up a safe discharge plan. This patient was confused with dementia and would often wander about the unit. One day, he became agitated and decided that he had enough of being in the hospital and was going to escape! We tried to divert him back to his room but ended up calling a code gray so we could safely get him back into his room. By this time, about a dozen people had responded, one of them being Erin. It was evident that Erin knew this patient well and very gently approached him, called him by his first name and embraced him. She held his hand, reassured him, and in doing so she was able to single-handedly diffuse the situation and talked him back into his room. Erin was able to aid in finding a safe discharge plan for this patient.
This is just one of the many lives Erin has positively influenced. We proudly celebrate her and her passion to deliver great care, compassion, and ability to see each patient as a person and not just a diagnosis.
