Thanks to Erin Statler and to Gerry Smith, I became a little less anxious and less fearful each week. Both women are exceedingly skilled at performing every step of the procedure.
Erin Statler, the Oncology RN in the Infusion Center, is quite simply an angel in human form. I started Gemcitabine intravesical chemo after a very difficult experience during preparation for bladder tumor removal. The surgery nurse had a great difficulty inserting the Foley prior to surgery, triggering a PTSD experience in me related to childhood trauma. For 3 1/2 weeks leading up to chemo, I remained exceedingly anxious with flashes of PTSD. Erin had been informed of my issue, preparing for surgery. As I entered the Infusion Center, she very warmly and calmly welcomed me. She then proceeded to walk me through the entire process while thoroughly informing me what she was doing at each stage. Erin thought of everything! She not only continued to calm me, but she also took care to introduce me to her colleague, Gerry Smith. At each subsequent appointment, she made sure I connected with Gerry, so I became comfortable with Gerry in case she needed to step in for Erin. As it turned out, Erin was unavailable for my 4th treatment. Gerry stepped in warmly and gracefully. The procedure went very well without me becoming more anxious or fearful because I already knew and trusted Gerry.
Thanks to Erin Statler and to Gerry Smith, I became a little less anxious and less fearful each week. Both women are exceedingly skilled at performing every step of the procedure. By the time I had my most recent infusion, I was able to remain calm the entire time. I am so grateful to have the Infusion Center in Hamilton. The environment is lovely. I am profoundly grateful to Erin and to Gerry as well. I feel as though they approach their profession as a ministry of grace and healing. I don't know how I would manage without them.
