Our first-time meeting Erin Today...she was bringing us back from the waiting room in the Children's Hospital Emergency Room. I was holding my 7-year old son, [patient], in my arms. He had been having fevers, vomiting, and lethargy for 10 days. She could see the worry on my face. She immediately went into action for [patient]. She was so soft-spoken, supportive, and gentle with him. She started with swabs and prepping him for lab work. The MD physician we saw was extremely dismissive of me. He continued to tell me that nothing was wrong with [patient]. When I became upset, Erin was there to help me. She supported me and helped me request several things from the doctor. I kept insisting something was wrong and she listened. As orders, medications, and testing got ordered....she was on top of every single thing. She kept [patient] as her patient despite being the charge nurse with an EXTREMELY busy ER. She always put his needs first. She partnered with me as his advocate and did not relent. She was so calm no matter what. Erin is the kind of nurse that every family dreams about having. She is skilled, kind, and loving. In the fast pace setting of the ER, Erin makes you feel like you are her only patient. She is exactly what you would hope for in a pediatric nurse! I might never be able to fully explain all that her care meant to us in one of the most helpless times. You never know WHO will be taking care of you...and we could not be more grateful that we got Erin!!! She is so deserving of this incredible pediatric award!
