I call him “Mr. Compassion" because of the extraordinary caring behaviours that make him go out of his way to offer care with a lot more friendly and genuine presence.
Nurse Owusu Mensah is an incredible nurse, and I can very easily talk about his kindness, creativity, and relentless pursuit of innovation in patient care.

When I reported to the hospital in the morning of this particular weekend, in a critical condition and needed immediate care and compassion, Ernest was there. It was a moment I was feeling weak and most afraid that I was about to lose my life. I was told that while I was receiving treatment, there was a sudden light off, and Nurse Ernest used his great ideas and innovative skills to nebulize me manually using a syringe and nebulizing chamber to save my life.

While on admission, I can say that Mr. Ernest is not only admired and loved by us, the patients but also by all members of the multidisciplinary team for his hard work, punctuality, and attitude of always placing the patient’s interest and recovery first. I call him “Mr. Compassion" because of the extraordinary caring behaviours that make him go out of his way to offer care with a lot more friendly and genuine presence.

He shows zeal and commitment to what he does. His hard work was seen early after his first posting in 2020 to the rural area of Akumadan-Afrancho a rural community in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

Ernest brought many changes in our paperwork and documentation with his skills in ICT and also helped the facility employ scoring systems for case management.

Through his efforts, Nurse Owusu Mensah also helped acquire the facility’s first-ever EKG machine to assist in early, detection and management of cardiac problems among patients who report to the facility.

Almost every student who comes to the facility refers to him as “Mr. Mentor,” as he is always seen mentoring students and interns.

He uses his spare time to train pupils and teachers in schools and the general public on first aid skills with emphasis on how to perform CPR.

Ernest's hard work earned him the Ashanti Regional Best Nurse as well as the 2nd Runner-up for the National Best Nurse award in 2022.

He is a pillar of care, relentless service, discipline, hard work, compassion, and a huge asset to health care at Akumadan-Afrancho. I believe he deserves to receive the DAISY Award.
