My dapper dude is currently receiving treatment at TCH for recurrent H.Pylori. B, aged 13, is non-verbal, Autistic, and has an Intellectual Disability. Despite his age, B engages with the world in a manner akin to a young child. He adores sensory experiences and delights in smelling and tasting various items. Adopted from China 6.5 years ago, his past includes experiences of trauma, with many triggers still unknown to us. His hospital stay will last FOURTEEN days to complete a full course of IV antibiotics. The care provided by Esmerelda, fondly known as "Esme," has been truly remarkable. Esme exudes a soothing presence and has formed a wonderful connection with B. She respects his current level of understanding without infantilizing him. Esme ensures that B is aware of the medications being administered, as well as their schedules and duration. She spends time chatting with him and even steps in when his sitter needs a restroom/lunch break. B has developed a special fondness for Esme, as evident from his affectionate gestures of smelling her shirt and giving her hand kisses. It is clear that he cherishes her presence. As we pass the halfway mark of his hospital stay, we eagerly anticipate seeing Esme again this Friday. We hold a quiet hope that she will be his nurse, providing him with the gentle care and love he deserves.

Thank you, Esmeralda, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
