Esmeralda Gonzalez, RN, BSN
I am the daughter of a patient who was on your unit this week. We had a nurse named Esme on Wednesday, and she was beyond amazing! I wanted to take a minute to acknowledge her.
She went above and beyond in every detail of his care. We have been on four units this week, from CCU to yours, to PACU, to Med-Surg, and she was the best out of anyone. She was very caring, but it was a bonus that she actually knew what she was doing. Instead of just following the orders on the computer, she actually knew her medical info, and you could see it in her care. It makes a huge difference when nurses know what’s going on with the patient’s diseases and meds.
She was able to help my dad through his emotional health as well. She took time and gave him the extra measures he needed to be comfortable about his upcoming CABG surgery. Most people would have said a few comforting words to brush aside a patient’s feelings, but she did way more than that.
This was the only day I really felt like I could just hang out in the room without worrying. And it should have been the most stressful day because the surgery was that day. She made it easy for all of us!
Thank you, Esme! Everyone else on the unit was great as well! But Esme deserves more recognition for sure!
