Esteisy is a new grad RN, last week Esteisy and her preceptor admitted a patient from the ED. He was found naked covered in bee stings in Ahwatukee near a homeless shelter. The patient did not speak English so it was difficult to communicate as they did not recognize the language. Esteisy and her preceptor completed as much of the admission as possible but noted that the patient did not appear homeless. He was wearing jewelry, had a fresh haircut and Esteisy began thinking he wasn’t homeless. She went home that night and couldn’t stop thinking about him. The next morning after receiving report, Esteisy began searching Homeless/Missing persons websites to see if she could find his picture. Eventually, she did find him!!!! To her surprise, the patient was from Glendale and has been missing for 2 weeks. She called the Glendale Police who notified the family and they were able to see him reunited with family-who were very excited to have found him. Esteisy demonstrated compassion and dedication to excellence in not making assumptions about this man, but taking action. I feel this shows great initiative, especially as a new grad and I am so proud to have her on our team.
