Esther (Molly) Powers, RN
First and foremost, thank you for being such a kind, compassionate, and truly incredible nurse. We are beyond grateful for the care you provided and for the many ways you went above and beyond to support us during such a heartbreaking time.
Our world was shattered when our dear friend C was found unresponsive by her husband, M, and rushed by EMS to HFHS Rochester. We were overwhelmed with confusion and left with so many unanswered questions. C was then transferred to the CVICU, where a CT scan revealed a bleed. While we held on to hope for a miracle, we also knew the outlook wasn’t good.
The next morning, we met you, Molly—and we were so blessed to have you as our nurse for all three days. You were with us when we received the devastating news that C's chances were slim. You guided us through every step of this unimaginable journey, explaining each development with compassion and care. I cannot thank you enough for allowing a revolving door of loved ones to come say goodbye to C. She was a beloved wife, mother, friend, teacher, neighbor—the list goes on. You took the time to learn who she was. You helped us fill her room with pictures and gently placed her signature beanie on her head, honoring her in the most beautiful ways.
C was also deeply involved in the dog community, and your efforts to get special permission for her dogs to visit and say goodbye were beyond meaningful. That act of kindness will stay with us forever. C was one of the most generous, selfless people we knew—always putting others first. It felt only natural that her family chose to honor her legacy by giving the gift of life to others.
We received confirmation that C would be transferred to U of M as an organ donor. The moment you learned of the transfer, you immediately reached out to her family to help organize an honor walk. That walk was breathtaking. The halls were filled with family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and so many others whose lives C touched. It was truly unforgettable.
When I asked if you'd be willing to record the honor walk—just in case her husband or daughters would want to keep that moment—you didn’t hesitate. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for being by C’s side from the very beginning to the very end. We will never forget the impact you had—not just on C, but on all of us. You cared for her family and friends with such grace and humanity, and we are forever grateful.
