Esther even used her break to come see me and actually gave me a true hair wash with water and shampoo, and she wasn't even my Nurse that day. Esther made my stay more comfortable and I always looked forward to seeing her and talking to her.
I was in the ER with two broken ankles from a fall. My nurse, Esther, welcomed me into my room and set me up with everything I needed and filled in my wall chart, explaining everything to me. I was afraid since I have never broken a bone and I was in a lot of pain. Esther made me very conformable and was the sweetest person to me. After a full shift, which is when I was admitted, she still had the brightest and warmest smile ever. I had Esther the next day as well and she was just as comforting. Esther quickly noticed my love for cats and shared that topic with me, so we spent time telling stories of our pets and experiences and shared many pictures. Esther never made me feel that I was in pain or that I was taking too much of her time, even though I knew she was busy with other patients.
Unfortunately, Esther was not my Nurse the next day, but she came to my room anyways and brought me some cat stationary and a cat pen. It was very sweet of her! I was in the hospital for 16 days before my surgery, and throughout that time, Esther came to visit me most days that she was working, even if she wasn't my assigned Nurse. Esther knew I was upset about no weight bearing on both legs, so I didn't have a real shower. Esther brought me some dry shampoo and razors because she knew I was uncomfortable about both. Esther purchased them herself and brought them from home. Esther would always check to see how my cats were doing. After my surgery and during my sessions with Physical Therapy in the wheelchair, she always came to talk to me and see how things were coming along. Esther felt bad for my long stay (one month) and always cheered me up with that sweet, bright smile.
One day, Esther even used her break to come see me and actually gave me a true hair wash with water and shampoo, and she wasn't even my Nurse that day. Esther made my stay more comfortable and I always looked forward to seeing her and talking to her. Esther is a true gem and an absolute asset to this hospital, and a pearl to the Nursing community. SBMC and the patients are lucky to have her!
