Ethan's demeanor however calmed me down, and at the least made me feel less anxious and overwhelmed while at the hospital.
During my stay at St. Luke's, I was transferred from the Warren campus to the Bethlehem campus. It had been a long day as I did not expect to be admitted from the emergency room and was under a lot of stress when coming into St. Luke's Bethlehem. Ethan's demeanor however calmed me down, and at the least made me feel less anxious and overwhelmed while at the hospital. He was an attentive and efficient nurse, and I still remember that he was working the night shift. I looked forward to seeing him on midnight rounds and check-ins as a familiar face and kind St. Luke's employee.

The bedside manner was excellent and memorable, and I even wrote him a note of appreciation at the end of my stay. More importantly, however, my experience with Ethan's care made me realize why I want to pursue a career in healthcare. The aspect of human interaction, compassion, empathy, and vulnerability is what makes medicine special on top of helping people, which is what I experienced when Ethan was my nurse during a difficult time of the year. I learned of the DAISY Award later on and immediately knew Ethan would be a perfect recipient for it.
