Other nurses would attempt to give updates however they had gained a relationship and trusted Eugene.
I recently started training in the ICU and was given the privilege to be trained by this outstanding nurse. I can't begin to count the number of times that I overheard people refer to Eugene as an always happy guy. Despite being in some of the darkest times in a nursing career Eugene brings light to every day.

One very specific day comes to mind when I think about Eugene and why he demonstrates all the attributes of a DAISY Nurse. The entire ICU had been turned into a Covid unit. He was caring for two extremely critical patients. One of these patients was very young and had given birth just a day before. Eugene took a huge part of his day updating a family member. This family member would call nearly hourly for updates. Other nurses would attempt to give updates however they had gained a relationship and trusted Eugene. Rarely would he not be able/willing to take the phone call. But when he was not able to get to the phone he would call them back as soon as possible. Eugene understood the severity of the situation as well as the fear the family was experiencing unable to be with the patient. Eugene's patience and kindness are nothing like I have seen before. He is an outstanding nurse that makes others want to be and do better. I was in a class recently where I was told that the difference between good and great is 1%. Eugene is always giving that 1% more. Thank you for being such a bright part of everyone's day.
