June 2021 Honoree
Eun Young Choi, BSN, RN, ONC
It was one of those dark, busy, chaotic nights in 3East during Covid Surge when a patient in Room 301 passed away on in-house Hospice care. The Hospice RN notified the daughter of the patient's passing. A few weeks later, I got a phone call from the daughter wanting to find out who was the nurse who took care and held her mother's hand on those last few moments of her life, a task and a chance that was impossible for her to do given the most difficult and unprecedented situation during the pandemic. She was very appreciative and very grateful to Young, RN, a very compassionate nurse, and had done a very personal level of care!!! Young's dedication to true nursing care wasn't unnoticed by the daughter. She was very tearful and emotional on the phone saying no words can describe how she feels about Young; she must be the angel God sent from heaven! She was so relieved knowing that her mom didn't pass away alone and that Young was there holding her hand. She did above and beyond what was expected of her nursing scope. She wanted to send Young something very special in the mail. It came in the mail, and Young wanted to share it with the 3EAST night team. I'm so honored and humbled to be working alongside this kind of nurse with a true calling of nursing care and a huge heart!!
Thank you, Eun Young, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
