Evangeline Calago, RN

Evangeline Calago RN and a NA noticed a resident chocking. RN performed a mouth finger sweep and NA performed a back blow. The patient was still unable to cough and Heimlich was initiated by 2 staff as the patient was becoming ashen, CODE blue was called, and another RN came to help with alternating Heimlich maneuver. Before the code team arrived a small piece of meatball was expelled from the patient’s mouth, the patient started to talk, and the patient's color went back to his baseline. Because of these 3 staff performing their due diligence, quick thinking, and teamwork, they saved a precious veteran's life that day.
