Evangeline always goes the extra mile to demonstrate compassion towards our veteran patients and their families. She often assists me with in-office biopsies of our head and neck cancer patients. In one instance, we had a patient with advanced cancer undergoing biopsy in the clinic and she was a constant reassuring presence for him. She held his hand and calmed him down throughout the procedure. He lost consciousness during the procedure and she cared for him during this event and for hours afterward.
When his cancer led to months of chemoradiation treatment, Evangeline would visit with him and his wife during their prolonged hospital stay. She kept in contact with them until he passed away several months later in the CLC, providing support to the wife and family throughout the process. Never once was she asked to follow these patients through or after treatment but took it upon herself to help them through this difficult time. This patient's wife was so thankful to have Vangie around to support her. She demonstrates the I CARE principles of Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, and Excellence.
