My mother had a CABG on a Monday. She did really well and we were ready to go home on that Friday. Thursday night Mom went into vfib and coded. She ended up back in SICU on the vent. Although her CT was negative, Dr. H. believes she had a PE that broke up into such small pieces that made it hard to see on the scan.
Evans took care of Mom Friday night. Mom did not like being on the vent. He was comforting to her; just his presence was comforting to her. To talk to Evans and watch him work gives you the confidence that he knows his job and your loved one is in good hands. My sister and I slept better knowing he was there.
By Saturday night Mama's condition was much worse, but again Evans was there and we were able to go back to our Hotel room to try and rest. When she had a neurological change, we received a phone call. This was a blessing because what we thought might be the end, was a sign from God to call the family in. After some medication, Mama came around and was alert. We were able to have some time with her before she went home to be with Jesus. I am so grateful that Evans had us call everyone in so we could have that time with her.
My mother was a retired ICU/EC nurse. Nursing for her was not a job; it was a calling and a passion. I see those same qualities in Evans. I know because of Evans we had a couple of more days with my mother and were able to say our good-byes.
