When I think of an individual who not only puts others first but allows the others to shine, Evelyn Miguel comes to mind.
Evelyn is a Nurse Manager for ICU and ED and makes if look so easy. Several months ago, our hospital had a blackout in which our critical care units along with ED, L&D, NICU and Med/Surg/Tele lost power. Evelyn was the first leader to arrive a little after midnight and made sure that all patients and staff were safe. She was our lifeline in knowing what was happening inside the hospital while we established the incident command center.

She established communication with EMS and ensured that all our NICU babies transferred out safely and quickly. She worked tirelessly over 20 hours to assist in transporting patients to other hospitals and relocating noncritical patients to other areas of the hospital to continue care. We practice mock incidents, but nothing prepares you for when it actually happens. Evelyn was able to quickly think and communicate with EMS, Incident Command and our Executive Team to ensure that all staff, families and patients were safe. Her passion and dedication to our patients exemplifies a true leader and lives our mission every day.

She went about and beyond for her patients, staff and community. In a hospital full of darkness, Evelyn was the light and leadership needed to ensure that all patients and staff we safe and supported. I'm proud to not only work with Evelyn but to see her grow into an exceptional leader.
