My birthday began at 12:01 am. Ewelina had made me a birthday card that she had taped to the window.
I was a patient for 5 days when I was discharged. Ewelina was a night nurse. I came to the hospital through the ER. I was initially on the COVID observation unit. I had many symptoms even though I tested negative. I was admitted late in the day. That night I felt terrible and had trouble getting to sleep. At 1 am, I was awake and looked at the nurse observatory window. I saw a nurse waving at me and pointing to a sign on the window. Then she came in to say Happy Birthday and see if I needed anything. My birthday began at 12:01 am. She had made me a birthday card that she had taped to the window. Her shift ended at 7 am. Before her shift was over she came in with a birthday cupcake on a tray with a sticker on it. She came in to say goodbye and Happy Birthday before she left. I was having a horrible headache and she stayed to get me pain medication and a cold compress. Even though this made her late to see her kids. Ewelina said no one ever remembers the night nurses. I surely remember her for her kindness. I am sorry I did not get to see her again.

Note: This is Ewelina's 2nd DAISY Award!
