This team is nimble and can pivot and turn on a dime to support whatever is needed to help their frontline teams.
This team has endless energy, enthusiasm, innovation and desire to develop the staff and impact patient outcomes. Their focus on the frontline has been a valuable asset to the inter-professional and contract staff guiding and supporting daily and during the Covid-19 pandemic. This team is nimble and can pivot and turn on a dime to support whatever is needed to help their frontline teams. During the pandemic this team on boarded hundreds of contract workers. They shared the responsibility and worked closely with the nursing leaders, security, pharmacy, lab, the screeners, and the staff. All of this was done often daily in addition to their normal work.
Ever wonder about what a day is like for an education resource specialist, wound care nurse, or diabetic educator? All educators have units they are assigned to for oversight of onboarding new hires, graduate nurses, and all intraprofessionals that work at SE/PL or the League City CCC. They teach new skills weekly to all clinical hires. Assigning and administering Prophecy assessments for clinical hires is an important task that isolates the learning needs and a plan to ensure the staff is able to meet regulatory requirements and have the knowledge and skill to provide excellent patient care. The new hires are followed by the education team who develop the Clinical Coaches and work closely with the Nurse Managers to ensure that the new hires are on a track to successful practice. if not, they develop remediation plans to support and promote good outcomes and an education plan to help them get on track. The team also leads annual competency for every clinical nurse and PCA. They oversee Nursing Peer review. They manage Advance Cardiopulmonary Life Support, and Basic Life support on our campus. The oversight of all academic affiliations for all non-medical clinical staff. We manage the Nurse Resident Program and The Nurse Fellowship Program. The Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurses stage and treat Pressure injuries and manage simple to complex wound, continence, and ostomy care. Our Diabetic education specialist sees patients both in and out patient at both facilities. All of the education team works on system projects where they teach lead and are stellar colleagues for their MHHS partners. This team is in charge of bringing new products and devices to the frontline, working with vendors to ensure that a solid education plan is available to promote staff and patient safety. This education team loves to teach and they do it in the classroom, using simulation and drills, and all team members have become ZOOM experts and virtual education specialists during the pandemic.
We are most proud of our Magnet designation. The educators are embedded on all councils and are active in their local Unit Practice Councils. They are involved in their EBP projects, council work, support, role modeling behaviors, writing elements of the document, and supporting the virtual teams and the Magnet site visit. During the pandemic, this team developed education to skill nurses rapidly from Med-surg to IMU and from IMU to ICU, which included skill integration. Phlebotomy training was developed and deployed to rapidly skill PCAs to successfully draw lab work where needed. During COVID-19, charge nurse classes, clinical coach classes, and weekly onboarding were done virtually and frequently to meet the needs of our facilities.
I am so proud of this team's accomplishments. Besides being a great group of professionals, they are great people who give of themselves so willingly and selflessly. They are loyal employees who believe in the staff and love their work and organization. I am so thankful for the opportunity to bring the accomplishments of this team to your attention. Thank you!
