August 2020 Honoree
eyleen toppila, RN
My 15-year-old son came in with stomach pain. What I believed to be a normal visit with antibiotics sent home, turned into staying at the hospital and having surgery for his appendix. I have a 9-month-old at home who I breastfeed and I was wanting to go home to feed her. That would mean I was going to have to leave my son behind. Then the nurse told me instead of leaving she can give me a breast pump and I could send the milk with my husband. I know it's not a big deal, but it was to me. It gave me peace of mind to be able to stay and know my daughter was getting milk. I was not prepared for this stay and did not have any reserves at home. I just want to say thank you for being sensitive to my concerns.
Thank you, Eyleen, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
