January 2015 Honoree
faith howard, RN, BSN
Faith was preparing a patient with back pain for an epidural steroid injection. With review of the history and physical the patient was noted to have a 40 pound weight loss over the last month and he appeared jaundiced. Faith was diligent informing the patient's doctor who ordered a Protime. The PT came back elevated and the case was cancelled. The patient was upset and Faith caringly informed him that he was sick and needed to see his Primary Care Physician. The patient was later found to have pancreatic cancer and per Dr A had they gone through with the epidural injection that day the patient could have had an epidural bleed and become paralyzed. Dr A sent a letter thanking Faith for her diligence and excellent work during this case.
Thank you, Faith, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
