Farah AL Zaghal, RN
My story began when I had admission to the Medical/Surgical Unit on the fourth floor for three days, and the treatment journey included starting chemotherapy. I decided to cut my hair early on because I knew the fact that I am going to lose it as a side effect during my treatment journey. Although I have been taught that it will re-grow after some time, but my heart was broken when I imagine my bald head. Such decision was a difficult, especially if you are admitted to the hospital with restricted visitation times for family during the COVID pandemic.
However, I was not lonely; my nurse Farah was on my side. One of my sons brought me a hair trimmer, but it wasn't working well. Nurse Farah got another machine and helped me a lot. Here I would like to thank her for her outstanding care as I passed through those difficult and unforgettable moments. Her compassion cannot be described in words because she gave me a great deal of morale boost and support to get through this stage.
One of the moments that will stay in my memory, I wanted to put on a little makeup to see myself the way I wish; Farah helped me beautifully with her indescribable way. While she was next to me, I looked in the mirror and realized that a compassionate nurse like Farah deserves to be thanked. I’m writing this story while I live in this challenging circumstance, but my belief was deep that Farah was an essential reason to overcome it. I’m truly grateful for nurses like her.
