My Dad was recently hospitalized for a broken hip and experienced amazing care from all of the nurses. Farra stands out, however. It can be easy to overlook the elderly and make assumptions about their ability to understand what is happening. Not so with Farra. She paid attention to the smallest details to better engage with him and provide care reflecting his needs. She checked whether his hearing aids were in or not and adjusted her volume and cadence of speech accordingly. Farra took steps to build a connection with him to better facilitate the patient-nurse relationship. My father is somewhat stoic about pain. She watched his facial expressions to see if his face matched his words and would ask again in a different way if she felt he was enduring more than he needed. She encouraged him to do his physical therapy when he was hesitant. And it was done efficiently and with patience. She was detailed in her explanations of what was being done and why. He was part of his treatment processes and not just a recipient. She made him feel like he had another good friend or family member in his corner. It is most apparent that her care for her patients is genuine and a true calling. She is efficient, articulate, intelligent, compassionate, and makes the patient and their family feel important and included in their care. Her upbeat demeanor (and constant smile) made a really uncomfortable time palatable for us all. I cannot begin to express my gratitude and awe for her skills-- medically and emotionally. This lady deserves accolades beyond what I can articulate.
