After ensuring the patient’s safety, Fasna didn't hesitate to return to the dialysis room to unplug the HD machine and move it away from danger, knowing this would help lessen the fire's impact.
Fasna arrived at her patient’s home in Mushariff, ready for a scheduled dialysis session. The session started smoothly at 1:50 PM, but at around 2:50 PM, she detected a strong smell of burnt plastic. Recognizing the potential danger, she quickly informed the patient's daughter, urging the family to investigate.

With heavy curtains obscuring visibility, Fasna scanned the outside through the window and noticed smoke outside the patient’s room. Acting decisively, she shouted for help while returning the blood, and a family member opened the window to confirm that a fire was indeed approaching. Understanding the urgency, Fasna dialled 999, halted the dialysis, returned most of the blood, and safely disconnected the patient from the catheter.

As smoke and fire began to fill the room, Fasna coordinated with family members to carefully transfer the patient into a wheelchair. Together, they evacuated the patient effectively and without incident. After ensuring the patient’s safety, Fasna didn't hesitate to return to the dialysis room to unplug the HD machine and move it away from danger, knowing this would help lessen the fire's impact. In her unwavering commitment, she left behind her own belongings and acted decisively in the face of adversity. The patient was temporarily relocated for safety.

Fasna promptly informed her line manager of the situation, emphasizing the need to transfer the patient for continued care. The NMC Reaya response team arrived swiftly at 4:30 PM, transporting the patient to NMC Royal Khalifa Hospital, where they reached the Emergency Department by 5:00 PM. Throughout this ordeal, the patient’s vital signs remained stable, and the family expressed gratitude for the support they received. Arrangements for a bed in the Emergency Department were made, and a careful handover to the Nephrology Department was conducted. The patient was scheduled for dialysis the next day, and the family wholeheartedly appreciated Fasna’s prompt actions and attention to detail. Her extraordinary care exemplified professionalism, excellence, sensitivity, compassion, respect, integrity, clear communication, and a commitment to diversity.
