The team firmly believes that caring for a patient requires dedication, compassion, and effort that go beyond just medical treatment; it involves empathy, patience, communication, attention to detail, and emotional resilience.
This is the story of a patient who has been living with quadriplegia and spinal cord injury, and has relied on a baclofen pump stimulator for the past five years. He was due for a critical baclofen pump refill, an essential procedure to prevent life-threatening complications and withdrawal syndrome.

Two days before his scheduled appointment, the Neuroscience OPD coordinator called the patient's family to remind them of the upcoming visit. Sadly, the patient’s father informed the coordinator that he was currently intubated and in the ICU at the Royal Commission Hospital in Jubail. Recognizing the urgency, as a delay in the refill could lead to dangerous consequences and damage to the pump, the coordinator immediately took action.

The coordinator, Ms. Fatimah Al-Julaiah, informed the department chair and the team about the patient’s condition, then contacted the hospital in Jubail. After confirming the patient’s condition with the admission and discharge departments, the coordinator arranged transportation through the hospital.

The Neuroscience team was able to visit the patient in the ICU and successfully refill the pump, ensuring the patient received the necessary care on time.

Even after this critical intervention, Ms. Fatimah continues to stay in touch with the patient’s father and follows up regularly on his condition, demonstrating the team’s commitment to ongoing care and support. The team firmly believes that caring for a patient requires dedication, compassion, and effort that go beyond just medical treatment; it involves empathy, patience, communication, attention to detail, and emotional resilience. These efforts reflect the holistic approach needed for effective patient care.

This story reflects Ms Fatimah and the team's dedication, quick response and continued nursing care.
