My daughter was in the hospital for major kidney surgery and she was very scared. At 17 she was at that age where she was either treated like a child or an adult but it's the rare person who can smoothly roll with each child's behavior and treat them accordingly second to second. My daughter was needing care like a young child one moment and wanted the nurse to talk to her and her alone the next. Fatiya rolled so smoothly with the change and addressed my daughter directly and expected her to make adult choices, 10 seconds later she recognized my daughter needed her mom and said 'let's get your mom to help' the next and my girl felt respected and seen for who she was and that made my whole day to see her pride in being adult enough to be active in her care but also young enough to be cared for. It was a moment I'll not forget.
