BSN, RN
Care Ward A - Pediatric Oncology/Post BMT Area
King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre
Riyadh
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
In today's in-patient areas, charge nurses are expected to lead staff while balancing the workload throughout their units with the ability to play the role of advocate for patients and Febe is performing with outstanding results.
Febe commenced work in King Faisal Specialist Hospital, Riyadh at CWA on February 2010; she is a valued member of the unit. She is industrious, resourceful and very respectful to patients, families, and colleagues. She has sound knowledge of disease management and has good clinical judgment. She is a good patient advocate and confident in patient care.
As a charge nurse, she is an outstanding role model for this unit. One incident, in particular, comes to mind when a young 11-year-old patient found out she had a relapse, Febe sat and talked at length with the patient and contacted social worker immediately. Febe shows empathy in all situations even though Arabic is not her first language. She is unafraid to stand up for her patients and their care.
In addition to being the charge nurse, who all consultants covering CWA describe as a knowledgeable professional; Febe demonstrates important traits in her role such as:
Flexibility: healthcare is never predictable; she is always prepared to take a different course of action when duty calls.
Empathy: she is always there for her colleagues and patients to listen closely to what they are saying.
The ability to motivate others: on many occasions, Febe revealed faith in her colleagues and seeks their feedback.
Leadership: she is a leader that can make a list of mundane tasks seem like a regimen for healing.
Sense of humor: she uses this trait by helping her colleagues through the hardest of times.
Self-confidence: she advocates for patients with reason and realizes that her duty is to protect the well-being of patients.
It has been amazing to see Febe gaining respect from her fellow colleagues. She has been the charge nurse of CWA, and taken this role with vigor, adapted too many new changes and performed an extremely effective job especially after attending the leadership and management course provided by our hospital. She has shown diligence, a degree of expertise and perseverance to assigned tasks. She is a patient advocate; as a matter of fact, she was awarded a "Good Catch" certificate during the QPS rounds. Her input and sound knowledge of each patient are valued by physicians during rounds. She has the compassion and respect to patients and their family, as CWA is looking after pediatric post marrow transplant patients, causes anxiety to patients and family regarding the plan of care, treatment, and procedure.
Febe is an integral part of CWA and is the right nurse when considering nurses for frontline leadership roles.
When it comes to peer review her nominating peers said, "Febe does not sit by idle while her co-workers are drowning in work. She steps right in, going above and beyond what is required and truly is a team player. She is gentle and compassionate, and very personable with patients and families, always finding some common ground in which to bond with them. Many times I have seen her give her own time to support the moral of her colleagues. Febe truly is a joy to work with, providing valuable knowledge and support to our department."
