My remarkable experience began when I was taken by ambulance from my home and admitted to Prisma Health Richland Hospital Emergency Room due to sudden abdominal bleeding. The professional staff there took me through a series of tests in order to deliver the prognosis of having a GIST tumor attached to my stomach wall. Needless to say, I was frightened to have all of this happening. Ultimately, I was given a room on 10 East.
All of the doctors and nurses were so professional and I had such a good experience! In addition to realizing that I was receiving excellent care from the staff at Prisma Health Richland, I also recognized that one nurse consistently demonstrated excellence through her clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care. Nurse Sarwary possesses many personal qualities that make her an outstanding role model. She is a dependable self-starter who successfully balances personal and professional responsibilities. In spite of the fact that she was following a rigorous working schedule, she maintained a calm mature demeanor and worked well under pressure. As she spent many long hours dedicated and committed to her many patients, her spirits were always bright, never dull. Her gentle and caring ways made me feel vitally important as a person, and her helpful warmth was inviting to me when I was not feeling strong and able to do things independently as I was used to doing. Answering my every question concerning my impending surgery for removal of the GIST with a reassuring smile on her face, I trusted her. After the surgery, she was encouraging, personable, and she perceptively attended to my every need. Regardless of whether or not I was her charge for the day or night, she made an effort to check on me daily. I felt as if I was important to her and that she truly cared, and I looked forward to seeing her. Needless to say, she was instrumental in my development of a positive attitude towards my condition and my recovery.
Having the confidence that I was in good hands was paramount to my recovery, I cannot say enough about this warm, loving, professional nurse who has a true gift for healing. She was my cheerleader and my angel, and she made a real difference in my recovery.
