Flordeliz Portacio has worked for the VA for many years specializing in ENT and Opthamology Surgery. One day I walked into the ASU recovery unit at Martinez to coordinate the Reusable Medical Equipment Competency process. Flordeliz was at a computer instructing and educating nursing staff with less experience from the VA education available on the computer, including Krames patient education. The next time I walked in unexpectedly and she was looking up different procedures.
She excels at compassion for her patients, educating them as well as staff and her peer group on OR procedures. She excels in her job performance improving patient care by working with SPS staff and vendors to bring new and improved processes to the ENT and eye surgeries. She exemplifies professionalism, communication, commitment, excellence, integrity, accountability and stewardship.
She took her own time and resources to go to the Phillipines to educate nursing students for several days. After that she worked with a medical mission team from a prestigious university for many more days restoring and improving eyesight for less fortunate people while there. Flordeliz maintains a positive attitude in multidisciplinary tasks to meet veterans needs and improve ASU services while maintaining cost effective consideration. Her personal practice demonstrates collaboration on a daily basis using excellent interpersonal skills, especially with SPS staff while maintaining high professional standards.
