She has a gift for connecting with patients and getting to know them and their stories. You will not see Fran sitting at the desk. She spends as much time with her patients as possible.
Fran has worked as a nurse at Avera St. Luke’s for over 50 years!!!! She has worked in a number of positions including as a Pediatric nurse, the manager for Pediatrics and OB, and now as a nurse for the Med/Surg/Peds unit. Fran has always adapted without complaint. (Can you imagine how many computer systems Fran has learned?) A compilation of why Fran’s co-workers feel she deserves this honor follows.
-Aside from putting in, what…50 years here? She has a heart of gold, always smiling and going the extra mile for her patients and is just fun to work with! She is an excellent choice for this award!
-Fran always has a positive attitude- regardless of how busy of a day she has had. She is always willing to jump in and help with patients and as always, is super thorough with cares!
-Fran is known to decorate patients' rooms, especially if they are here long-term. She will bring in treats for both patients and staff.
-If Fran sees a call light on, she answers it, whether it’s her patient or not.
-She always has a smile and greets everyone.
-Fran will never complain about her workload or her day.
-She is upbeat.
-Fran has put in multiple years of service. She is the best nurse we know.
-She can run circles around all of us.
-Even on the bad days, Fran tries to make others feel good.
-Fran takes pride in everything she does, including how patient’s rooms, restrooms, the breakroom, etc., look. She has been known to take a picture of an overflowing trashcan in a bathroom and remind us to do better!
-She has a gift for connecting with patients and getting to know them and their stories.
-You will not see Fran sitting at the desk. She spends as much time with her patients as possible.
-Fran has bought or made presents for patients and co-workers.
-The unit had a previous employee who was admitted and very worried about her cat. Fran went out, purchased cat food, and went and fed the cat.
-A co-worker said about Fran, “Just come meet her!!”
-Fran has crazy hair, big eyes, a beautiful smile, mismatched socks, and a big heart.
-She is very innovative. She thinks outside the box to find a way to fix something, keep a tube in place, etc., when everyone else has given up.
-Fran will kill a spider for you.
-Fran is a true team player.
-She is “wonderful!” (This was said multiple times!)
-Fran makes each of her patients feel #1!
-She goes out of her way to do things for her patients, families, and co-workers.
-Fran is always willing to help others.
-She has a great sense of humor.
-Fran is caring and loving!
-And finally, from Fran’s daughter, who is also a nurse: “She goes above and beyond for every patient she encounters. She is always trying to cheer the patient up and make their stay as joyful as she can with treats or signs.”
