Frances is like a soldier who did not show any hesitance in fulfilling her duty which is to save lives and care for the sick. She never refused any task given to her and she always helped the team in any way she could.
Not just anyone can be a healthcare worker. It takes an individual with endurance, strength, and courage. It must have the heart to help with passion and care. Healthcare has many duties including caring for patients, communicating with doctors, administering medicine, and checking vital signs. Making up for the biggest healthcare job, nurses play a vital role in medical facilities.
Every nurse was drawn to nursing because of the desire to care, serve, and help. The DAISY Award is for nurses who show dedication and in rendering total quality care to patients and go beyond their duties and responsibilities. I, as an ER Maternity Nurse, had many experienced regarding this. Observing my workmates and dealing with different personalities, races and cultures have come throughout my stay as a nurse in our institution.
Nurse Frances has been truly an amazing nurse throughout the years I worked with her. She is very benevolent in the things she always does. Amidst the pandemic, she manages to do her tasks properly and orderly.
It was mid of March when the pandemic started and everyone was not prepared and afraid to be infected by the virus. We were informed by our Head nurse that the administration of ER Central asked help from Maternity Hospital to pull out some staff from each unit because some of their staff was affected and positive with COVID-19 which totally affected their staffing and manpower. I was really amazed and astonished when Nurse Frances voluntarily presented herself since most of the staff was not willing to take the risk in covering Central ER since the cases there of COVID-19 were escalating. She knew the risk that she could get it but all she cared about was saving the lives of others and helping the other nursing team who was affected by the virus by adding in their manpower to cover all the services.
She never thinks of herself but of the lives, she can save and change and contribute. Although she worked less than 2 years in KSMC, she was called and served to face a serious battle that is unarmed, uncertain, and unprepared. She is like a soldier who did not show any hesitance in fulfilling her duty which is to save lives and care for the sick. She never refused any task given to her and she always helped the team in any way she could.
When she worked in General Hospital as pull out, I remember her stories and how much she had worked there tirelessly due to the bulk number of patients received. Although everything was new, she was great at doing her work there, as she is flexible and knowledgeable in her nursing skills. She worked in all shifts and from the ward, she was moved to the ER Department as I think she had all the best skills and knowledge that is why she was seen to be effective and efficient and was absorbed in ER Central for more than 2 months. When she returned back to Maternity Hospital, there was an incident when the Doctor informed the Security to send the patient's sister out. Good thing she has the initiative to check the patient's file even if the case was not assigned to her as she discovered that the patient was deaf and mute and so that person was the patient's support system/ watcher who can interpret the patient the care plan for her. She informed and discussed with the Doctor and informed him about the policy for deaf and mute. With her immediate catch on this issue, patient satisfaction was met since now we need to involve the family in patient care.
Another scenario that really made an impact to me and I will never forget was when Nurse Frances volunteered herself when one patient was about to deliver. She just finished attending one patient and the Charge Nurse was undecided who will take the patient who had progress from 5 cm to 9 cm. She presented herself to attend this case and shifted the patient inside the labor room since nobody wanted to take responsibility for the case as she progressed immediately. She never had an issue with documentation compliance as she had always completed her nurse's notes and was even assigned to check her unit documentation compliance since she was excellent in her work.
Rendering nursing care is really in her heart, she was loved by the patient she was taking care of. She really gives emphasize on the care she gives along with her patients, that is why Nurse Frances often receives appreciation from her patients as they feel her compassionate care.
She is a DAISY Nurse since her pure heart was seen and felt into service of nursing and caring to the patient whose compassionate care is unquestionable and despite her being new in the KSMC, she contributed more than criticized and so she is a good role model for us and for other nurses in KSMC.
