I was admitted with appendicitis to Lake Forest Hospital. I had my surgery that morning and was placed in the pediatrics wing. Fran was very kind and compassionate. You see, when I came in for my emergency appendectomy it was unclear why my appendix had ruptured. I found out later that the reason my appendix ruptured was due to a tumor in my appendix. I found out that I had colon cancer at that point and would need further surgery. My MD came in with Fran to explain this to me. My MD was hoping that my wife would be with me, but she works and we had no notice that this meeting would take place. Fran was able to be emotional support for me at that particular point. She sat with me after the MD had left and made sure I was okay. She made sure I understood everything that was just said and everything that was going to happen over the next couple of months. Fran was also here when the Oncologist came in to talk with me. That was a bit of a more jovial conversation. The form of cancer that I have is not that bad and so long as the surgery to remove part of my colon goes okay, I should be cancer free. Again, Fran sat with me (and my wife at that point). Fran made sure we both understood what was going on and what was going to happen. She could have very easily said, "You good"? and then left. She took her time and she made sure that I was good. She was with me through one of my hardest days. For that, I will always be grateful, and for that, she is a DAISY Nurse. If every nurse at your facility is similar to Fran in personality and compassion, then you have an amazing hospital. Thank you.
