During my dad’s stay, he was experiencing significant pain, and despite interventions, relief did not occur, and the pain continued to become unbearable. When I called Francisco, he took them seriously, stayed in the room, and called both provider teams. He used clear and strong language like "severe pain, distress, and agitation" to depict the situation. When one of the provider teams asked to give it more time, and the other team deferred to the first team, he did what every nurse advocate should do and escalated to the charge nurse to escalate to the attending. I cannot thank Francisco enough for his strong advocacy, listening to and validating our concerns, and escalating to the fullest extent of his scope. He is a true example of exemplary practice in nursing, and that nurse advocacy can truly impact patient experience and quality outcomes.
