As a combat veteran who has spent countless months away from home, I never felt so helpless as I did with my wife’s hysterectomy and especially when she developed a fever as a result of an abscess after the surgery. This is my wife; Leaving it up to someone else is the hardest thing in the world. I was so stressed out that I was short with the doctors and others. My wife developed a persistent fever following a hysterectomy two weeks prior. We made multiple trips to the hospital only to learn that an abscess had developed. We spent about 40 hours in the ER, which was terrifying with all the sounds that come along with that experience.

Our first day upstairs after being in the ER was a breath of fresh air. Frazhier’s attentiveness, knowledgeable explanations, and gentle care were exactly what my wife and I needed. I cannot express enough how grateful we were that he was on shift that day. My wife was lucky enough to get Frazhier again as our RN on her second day. Her pain was pretty severe, still recovering from a hysterectomy as well as the abscess. Frazhier provided expert care, predicting when she might need extra medicine, and he got ahead of it by making sure to check on her and presciently involving her Gyn/Onc team at exactly the right times. Additionally, he ensured to stay on top of the antibiotics, patiently explaining when the plan was for giving them and how long they’d each take. He was an absolute godsend, and we are so grateful for the care he provided.

Frazhier was her nurse again the next day, which was a blessing given how scary everything was for her and me. Late the day before, she had a procedure to drain the abscess, but due to the volume of the abscess, they had to put in a drain, all of which seemed like the most pain I’d seen her experience throughout the whole ordeal. The pain barely abated overnight, but once Frazhier got in, he proactively worked with the doctors to help get her pain from a consistent 9+ down to a 5. He was so responsive and advocated for her the whole day. I cannot express how much his calming demeanor, caring attitude, and knowledgeable explanations made all the difference during a particularly difficult experience, both physically and emotionally.

I don’t know what we would have done if he hadn’t been there. Because while my wife was the patient, I was a wreck. Seeing how tenderly he treated her, listening to her and me, and talking through everything with us, it brought my own anxiety down from a peak I hadn’t experienced, possibly even in wartime. I can’t do much for him or the rest of the staff, but I would love for him to know how much he does and how appreciative his patients are.
