Fred accompanied them to Discount Tire and negotiated the price for their tire to be replaced. The couple didn’t have much cash with them, and Fred willingly contributed to purchasing the tire and having the damaged one replaced.
I would like to nominate Fred Ramos, the Clinical Leader for the ADTU. During Hurricane Milton, we had an elderly couple who experienced car trouble during the evening when Milton was about to make landfall here in FL. The couple was from Sarasota and were trying to evacuate from their area. The car trouble was for a busted tire and that they were traveling using the spare tire, but needed to fix/replace the damaged tire in the morning. They were brought to an empty space in the ADTU (with direction from our CNO and security), provided meals as coordinated through the command center, and that we possibly securing placement in a shelter that morning. Due to the minimal impact of the hurricane here in Alachua, the command center was notified that shelters were going to close at 1300H. Fred talked to the couple and they agreed to have their tire issue addressed and expressed their desire to head back to Sarasota to inspect their home. Fred accompanied them to Discount Tire and negotiated the price for their tire to be replaced. The couple didn’t have much cash with them, and Fred willingly contributed to purchasing the tire and having the damaged one replaced. The selfless act during a time of absolute need exemplifies what a leader is and I am honored to nominate Fred Ramos (CL ADTU) for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award.
