Frida Cereceres, RN
I am honored to commend Katlynd (Frida) Cereceres in recognition of the extraordinary compassion, clinical expertise, and quiet strength they demonstrated while caring for a mother experiencing a fetal demise. Drawing on more than 20 years of experience as an Emergency Department nurse, Frida brought a calm, steady presence into an emotionally overwhelming and medically complex situation.
The mother was intubated, sedated, and hemodynamically unstable during induction and delivery, and Frida managed her care with remarkable precision. When we learned we were to receive this complex patient, Frida was the clear go-to nurse to take care of her and her family. They safely titrated medications while simultaneously preparing for and ultimately delivering the baby, all while maintaining an environment that felt controlled and respectful rather than chaotic.
What stood out most was Frida’s deep awareness that this was not only a clinical event, but a profoundly human one. They lightened sedation at appropriate moments so the mother could be informed of what was happening, ensuring dignity and connection were preserved even under critical circumstances. They intentionally limited the number of staff in the room to maintain privacy and reduce distress, advocating for the emotional well-being of both parents.
After delivery, Frida continued to go above and beyond. They gently held the baby while continuing to manage the mother’s care, seamlessly balancing technical skill with compassion—holding the baby in one arm while titrating norepinephrine with the other; this nurse can do it all. They ensured that both mother and father were able to have meaningful skin-to-skin time with their baby. Recognizing that grief does not follow a schedule, they also developed a plan with the labor and delivery team so the baby could be brought back to the unit whenever the parents wished for more time together.
Throughout the entire experience, Frida made an incredibly complex situation look effortless. It was top-tier nursing. Their composure reassured the team, her expertise ensured the mother’s stability, and her compassion created space for the family to grieve, connect, and begin to heal. It was amazing to watch.
