Gabby Archuleta, RN

Gabby was the primary nurse for a particularly challenging patient who was constantly unhappy, agitated, demanding, and using harsh language towards her and other staff. When interacting with the patient, Gabby remained calm, listened intently to what the patient had to say, spoke respectfully, and clearly explained the care being provided for the patient and her baby.

She followed the patient's wishes by completing all of the baby's care with the patient present. During her shift, the patient repeatedly spoke to Gabby disrespectfully and treated her poorly, but Gabby maintained professionalism and a positive attitude. Gabby facilitated open communication with the patient's provider throughout the shift to advocate for the patient and accommodate her requests.

As the patient's behavior escalated, Gabby followed appropriate protocols by maintaining safety and calling in additional unit nursing staff, her charge nurse, and the nursing supervisor for support. Gabby deserves a DAISY Award for maintaining professionalism in a gentle, calm, composed, yet confident manner throughout a difficult shift.

She was patient, attentive, and adaptable to the patient's ever-changing moods. She showed kindness and concern for the patient's complaints and charted an exceptional amount of detail in the medical record. Gabby was dedicated to providing excellent care for the patient and her baby with both empathy and compassion, no matter how she was being treated or spoken to. Gabby is an exceptional asset to our unit and an essential part of our team. We are so lucky to have her.
