As a nurse on the postpartum unit, I am very familiar with Gabe. I frequently receive patients from him after they deliver their babies on L&D. Our postpartum patients always have great things to say about their deliveries when Gabe is their nurse. This week it was my turn to be the patient. My husband and I came in to have our first baby and when I found out that Gabe was going to be our nurse, I knew we were in great hands. We had the pleasure of having Gabe as our nurse two nights in a row and he ended up being our delivery nurse. From admission to delivery, he was always keeping us informed on what was happening and what was going to happen next. He made sure to explain things in a way that my husband and I would both understand and didn't treat me any differently just because I have OB experience. I appreciated that because labor and delivery is a lot different than postpartum care. There was a situation that happened to me before delivery that I wasn't expecting, and although it was something that I had to mentally work through myself, Gabe didn't leave my side and he encouraged and supported me the entire time. When it came to pushing, there were times when I didn't think I could physically or mentally do it any longer and Gabe continued to encourage and remind me that I had the inner strength to do it. My labor experience is something that I will remember for a lifetime and Gabe will always be a big part of that.
