I had a radical cystectomy with urinary diversion. Not only did Gabriella provide all the wonderful care, thoroughness, and attention that all nurses provide but she spent extra time helping me adapt to my new life with an ostomy bag. Needless to say that this change was daunting for me and even with the excellent support NYU Langone provides I found myself with questions and doubts. “How was I going to do this by myself?”, “How do I empty the bag without a mess?”, “The bag seems a bit small, I will be back and forth to the bathroom constantly.” I would have figured it all out EVENTUALLY, but as a truly exceptional nurse, Gabbie took the time to hear out my concerns and problem-solve each and everyone, so that I could go home confident and happy. What more can a nurse do, than not only do their day job, but go above and beyond to help their patient to get on with a normal, happy life?
