Gabriela was amazing throughout the whole experience. She demonstrated extraordinary compassion, empathy, and kindness during the most difficult day of my family's life. Early that morning, around 4 am she sat with my dad for nearly an hour and a half, allowing him to cry, talk, and process the reality of losing his wife. She didn't rush him or make him feel like she had somewhere else to be. She simply listened. In that moment, she gave him a safe place to grieve. Later that day our family made the heartbreaking decision to transition my mom to hospice care. The transition was unexpectedly delayed until the nursing shift changed, which meant Gabriela became my mom's nurse. Looking back, I truly believe there was a reason for that. The first time I met Gabriela, she immediately walked over and hugged me. Before saying anything else, she made me feel seen and cared for. Throughout the remainder of my mom's time in the ICU, I knew she was being treated with dignity, compassion, and genuine love.

What makes Gabriela exceptional is that her care extended far beyond her patient. She cared for our entire family. Even after my mom passed away, she took the time to write my dad a heartfelt letter. That simple act of kindness showed us that we were more than another patient or another room; we were people she genuinely cared about. I will never forget the compassion Gabriela showed us. During one of the darkest moments of our lives, she brought comfort, peace, and humanity. I truly believe she was the final glimpse of the kindness my mom spent her life giving to others.

Instead of remembering only the pain of losing my mom, we also remember the compassion she showed us. She gave my dad the space to grieve when he needed someone most; she made me feel seen with a simple hug, and she truly cared for my mom with dignity and tenderness during her final hours. Her actions reminded us that even in unimaginable heartbreak, people's kindness can make a difference. She gave us comfort when no words could fix what was happening. Months from now, I may not remember every medical detail from that day, but I will always remember Gabriela. Her compassion became the only bright memory from the darkest day of our lives, and our family will carry that gift forever.

Thank you, Gabriela, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
