We had a patient who had been with us for several months. The patient was critical since the day he arrived. As we worked with the family identifying goals and needs, continuity of care was one of the expressed wishes of the family. Gabi was one of the nurses who had taken care of this patient multiple times, along with several of her colleagues. The patient’s family discussed withdrawal of care, Gabi, as the bedside nurse, supported the family throughout the process. She picked up two extra shifts to provide that continuity of care that was so desired by them for their infant son’s final days. Gabi went above and beyond to ensure they had everything in our capability to provide a peaceful passing and comfort for the parents. Gabi is an amazing nurse who offered the holistic care this family needed at this most difficult time in their lives.
