Being admitted into the hospital places enormous strain on both the patient and the family. It is without question one of the worst vulnerable times in anyone’s life. I have been on all three sides: as a patient, as a worried family member, and as a nurse caring for patients at the bedside. From everything I’ve learned so far and continue to learn, it takes a highly compassionate person to fill this role day in and day out. Gabby has a gift. She demonstrated true understanding, patience, compassion, empathy, and respect. Gabby also has strong critical thinking skills and communication skills, pays great attention to detail, and shows teamwork skills. As busy as floor nursing is, Gabby never rushed during an assessment, positioning, medication administration, nor linen change. She understands nursing is not just a job, but a calling. Gabby is an extraordinary nurse who will continue to excel at all she does. Methodist Dallas is blessed to have her and needs more nurses like her.
