This nurse holds a special place in many patients’ hearts. This nurse is often the first nurse the patients need during admission or a crisis. This nurse has a calm, bright approach with patients and families and provides care with a warm touch that families often express their gratitude for. This nurse often goes back to the patient’s home later in the shift just to make sure they have the added support they need. This nurse’s compassion and competent care make a huge difference in the lives of our patients, and she is truly an asset to our team. 

Last week, a patient had a sudden decline, and his spouse was in complete shock and filled with uncertainty. The spouse was anticipating her husband of 62 years to pass any day- she felt lost. This nurse took her time during each visit to comfort the spouse, listen, and offer insight, which brought an immense sense of support. This nurse explained alternative comfort measures and medication use, easing fear over the comfort meds. Today, the patient appeared much more comfortable, but most importantly, the spouse was at ease with restored confidence. On behalf of this family, I would like to recognize and express my gratitude for this nurse’s unconditional empathy and compassion. It is my honor to present this DAISY Award to Gabrielle Obre.
