Gaby drove back to the hospital that same night to show the patient a video of her dog wagging her tail when she got there.
Gaby is one of the most compassionate nurses I’ve ever had the opportunity to work alongside. She has a heart of gold that was demonstrated during a specific instance with one of our very own rehab patients. Gaby was taking care of a patient who was upset because her dog had not been let out for 3 days. The dog was very old, and that patient was very worried that the dog could have unexpectedly passed away with no food or water. The patient was distraught and tearful alone in her room with no support. Gaby was at the bedside with the patient, providing her comfort. Gaby willingly volunteered to let the patient’s dog out (with her permission). The patient was eager to give Gaby her keys. Gaby drove to the patient’s house after her 12-hour shift, let the dog out, and provided her food and water. Gaby even went above and beyond and recruited 2 other RNs to clean areas of the patient’s home, including the dishes, vacuuming the floor, and making the bed. After the dog was let out, Gaby drove back to the hospital that same night to show the patient a video of her dog wagging her tail when she got there. The patient was crying so many happy tears knowing her dog was okay. She was so grateful for Gaby. We are so fortunate to work with such a special nurse on the rehab floor.
