Gail is special to us because she was our daughter's primary nurse through two BMT admissions, totaling a duration of about two months. Our daughter is 10 years old who is very aware, and while not necessarily difficult, has opinions and thoughts about her care. This makes rapport and trust important over such a long admission. An opinionated kid who isn't feeling well can lead to some challenges, but Gail built a relationship with my daughter where we could get her to do what we needed her to do, or come to a compromise that was satisfactory.
In fact, there was a period of time where I realized that despite the fact I was her mother, she would comply with Gail before ever hearing anything I had to say. It was funny to me but also a testimony to the relationship that developed between the two.
I am aware that Gail does training and teaching at CHLA and I'm sure she's great at it, as I've witnessed her organization and thoughtfulness in the details of nursing. I've seen her retrain a couple colleagues and it's quite obvious she has high standards while being respected and well liked. BMT nursing is a high level of care and I can't imagine a more excellent nurse in your unit, although I know you have many. Thank you, Gail.
