Ms. Estanque treats everyone with respect. Even if the situation is uncalled for, she has chosen to treat everyone with compassion, patience, and understanding.
I respectfully nominate Ms. Gail Estanque for the DAISY Award to be recognized for her hard work, dedication, flexibility, compassion, and commitment. She has manifested the ICARE values as follows:
I – Ms. Estanque has gained the trust and confidence of her co-nurses under her management. Whenever there are problems in the module, unresolved conflicts, or issues that need to be addressed, even the simplest problems like the machine not working, printer not printing, lights flickering, or supplies running out, she is the go-to person of the staff. She is confident in everything she does; she finds a way to solve all our needs, resolves conflict among staff, finds coverage, manages our schedules appropriately, and divides tasks equally. That’s why we have full confidence in her and trusts her judgement and follows her leadership.
C – Ms. Estanque has shown her dedication and commitment not only as our nursing supervisor but also to our veterans. As an RN, she is willing to man the clinic when there is a staff shortage. Whether to act as an RN or as an MSA, she is willing to lend a hand. She is an exemplary leader, leading through her example. She uplifts the VA’s mission and works diligently; she doesn’t care if it’s past her time; she is committed to finishing her tasks and will go above and beyond to accomplish them.
A – Ms. Estanque advocates for patient and patient’s needs. She always think of patient’s well-being and safety when pressed with decision making. She weighs the pros and cons of the situation and always chooses what is best and ethical for the patient and for the staff she’s handling.
R – Ms. Estanque treats everyone with respect. Even if the situation is uncalled for, she has chosen to treat everyone with compassion, patience, and understanding. She believes in treating staff equally and dividing assignments equally among us nurses. She does not raise her voice. She is willing to listen and understand the situation. She has earned our respect for being a great leader.
E – Ms. Estanque stands for Excellence because that’s what she gives when she cares, and that’s the commitment she strives for, excellence in service to our veterans, by molding us nurses under her care and guidance so we ourselves can provide excellent service to our veterans.
