Gail Swartz loves her patients and she is always looking for ways to make them have a better day. Gail is the type of nurse that loses sleep thinking about what she can do the next day for her patients.
Recently, Gail had an oncology patient. This patient and their family just received the devastating news that turned their whole world upside down. They were told of the poor prognosis and the limited time this patient had left. Gail spent the day with the patient and the family receiving this life-shattering news. Gail was present during the multiple meetings with hospice and specialists, and she provided constant support throughout this devastating day. This patient had an 11-year-old son who was not taking the news well. The son wanted to do something special for his mother. Gail and the patient's son brainstormed and came up with an Italian picnic. Gail assisted in making arrangements for this boy to surprise his mom.
Gail was able to get a table cloth and basket filled with sparkling apple cider and fancy glasses while the son brought in the Italian food. This patient and family were and are truly appreciative of the attentive nursing care as well as making this beautiful memory. This young man may not have his mother much longer, but he will have this special memory forever.
