Gail went out of her way to make sure that I was comfortable and well cared for.
I would like to nominate Gail Wagaman from GEU for the DAISY Award. I was a patient in this unit. When I came in, I was very anxious about having this procedure. Gail was very calming and helped me to relax, while also alleviating my fears and concerns. She made small talk with me, as she knew my wife and used to work on the same unit with her. She asked about my grandchildren, how old they were and so forth, and made conversation to help me get the procedure off my mind. Gail also encouraged me by stating that the physician completing my procedure was very knowledgeable and competent, and had been doing this type of procedure for many years (I had not personally met him before this). She explained the procedure to me so that I knew exactly what to expect. She even phoned my wife to pick me up when it was time for me to be discharged.
I feel that Gail went out of her way to make sure that I was comfortable and well cared for. She highly demonstrated all the core values of being an extraordinary nurse as affiliated with the DAISY Award. She showed integrity by gaining my trust; commitment by serving me, the patient; advocacy by focusing on me, the patient; while providing dignity and respect and excellent service.
