Since starting work at UWMC, I have admired and respected Gale’s skills and work ethic as an RN. Initially, with his job in the pre-op area, he managed his area efficiently and seemingly effortlessly, even when chaos seemed to ensue. With the changes in the PACU/pre-op areas and with the requirement that the nurses need to be able to work in all areas, Gale’s attitude in terms of taking on the challenge of going through the ICU program and learning to care for the ICU patients is impressive. After so many years in one area of nursing, Gale’s positive attitude and desire to learn something new and challenging is admirable. It’s as if Gale has been caring for PACU patients all along.

Gale is capable of being in charge with all the confusion and many phone calls that continually interrupt. He is an excellent resource and is always happy to help out when asked a question or asked for help. Whenever Gale is in charge, we know it is going to be “ok” in the pre-op area no matter how the day goes. I admire the way Gale interacts with his patients and families. He tries to put everyone at ease as he discusses the events that will take place and answers their questions. Patients and families seem to respond well to gale. He is very respectful of people; both patients and staff alike. Gale is a fantastic nurse and a great person; one who definitely serves the DAISY award.
