In our time fighting ALS, we meet a lot of healthcare professionals, but it is not often that we meet nurses as exceptional as Garrett!
My brother has ALS, a very painful neurodegenerative disease. He is the bravest guy I know, I say this not just as his sis, but as his caregiver too. He has been through so much these past 5 years fighting this terrible disease. We have been to multiple hospitals for treatments. No part of this diagnosis is easy. That is why I'd like to call attention to Garrett for his exceptional care of my brother.

From the beginning, he was gentle and compassionate with my brother. We are here being treated for a traumatic and violent incident related to a prior caregiver, so it mattered a lot to us that Garrett was especially attentive to him. When positioning my brother, he really focused on making sure the chest tube was positioned correctly and not kinked. Lots of people assume my brother can't feel just because he is bedbound which is not the case. My brother uses eyegaze tech to speak, which Garrett was always conscientious about. It is his only form of communication. Not only was Garrett's work exceptional, he is incredibly personable as well, making my brother smile throughout the shift.

In our time fighting ALS, we meet a lot of healthcare professionals, but it is not often that we meet nurses as exceptional as Garrett! We really hope he is recognized as this standard of care is uncommon. Thank you Garrett and thank you Saint Thomas West team for providing excellent care to my brother. We'll forever remember our time here as a healing one, restoring our Faith in hospitals.
