Garrett McKenna, BSN, RN, CCRN
I was a nurse working in the Emergency Department at HUP during the time I was admitted as a patient. I went from being a normal, healthy 29-year-old about to get on a plane for a trip until I woke up that morning with a blue leg.
After my lengthy procedure with IR, I found myself in MICU. I was taking hit after hit and found to have PEs and a large blood clot on my heart. I underwent open heart surgery and was in CTSICU post op. I can vividly remember my nurse Garrett, my shining light in the night...literally. He helped keep me comfortable, safe, and most importantly, laughing.
Although this event happened two years ago, I still think of Garrett all of the time! Our time may have been brief together, but his meticulous nursing care will never be forgotten.
